In response to the crisis in American democracy, he founded After We Vote Action: A Cross partisan - Pro democracy political action think and do tank. His entrepreneurial success includes business sectors in the private and public sector from health clubs and manufacturing, to charter schools.

Amongst his responsive leadership, Smith chairs the state of Georgia’s Covid-19 Task Force’s Outreach Subcommittee and created the award winning United2Live awareness campaign. He’s been involved in the founding of two acclaimed classical education model schools where he currently sits on the Board of Directors. Smith is a regular commentator on Georgia Public Radio’s Political Rewind and frequently interviewed by national media. He’s an active member of the Washington D.C. think-tank American Enterprise Institute Leadership Network (AEI), and the Georgia Public Policy Foundation. He also serves as an advisor to the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Non-violence (The King Center) as a strategic partner.

Smith is the creator of The A.R.T. of Voter Engagement; an outreach model, for Attracting - Relating - Transitioning and Transforming political party growth and policy advocacy. When asked, his two teen children describe Leo’s work as; “He teaches people how to love America!”

A former State Committeeman, and State Director for Minority Voter Engagement with the Georgia Republican Party. Smith was credited with growing the percentage of African Americans voting for a Republican Governor from 4% to 13% to elect Governor Nathan Deal. The AJC referred to him as a minority engagement “guru.”

Leo Smith's history in social justice goes back into the late 1990s in Virginia where he served as President of the Montgomery-Floyd County President of the N.A.A.C.P. and the founder of the Human Relations Council. He also founded the New River Valley Ecumenical Alliance and coordinated inter-faith work across race, religion and class. Spending 13 years as a university administrator, he was also an EOAA professional at Virginia Tech where he focused on athletics, campus climate, diversity and inclusion.

Recognizing America’s struggle with defining and restoring faith in elections and democracy, Leo is co-leading Georgia’s efforts to create non-violent civic and political engagement for a more resilient democracy. He also founded After the Elections and After We Vote; A National Cross-partisan, Cross-Racial think and do-tank sponsoring dialogue, ideation and mobilizations across difference.
